Christian Hestness was born in Washington State. At the age of 5 he moved to Dutch
Harbor. There he was introduced to the world of fishing and life on the ocean as his
father worked as the foreman of a crab processing ship, the Vita. Going grocery shopping
or to school meant a boat ride in a skiff to Unalaska on Amaknak Island. Being on a boat
got into his blood. When his family moved back to Washington he spent summers under the
tutelage of his grandfather sailing the San Juan Islands and the Canadian Sound.
He learned to handle the Pink Cloud - a 47' Newporter, the Rival IV - a Cal 246 and the
Zephyr- a US 36. In his teenage years he worked in the shipyards of Ballard helping his
father prepare for upcoming crab seasons by rigging crab pots and maintaining the boat.
For the past 20 years, Christian has worked in the car business. But he never lost sight of
his dream of owning his own sailboat. In the summer of 2006, his dream became a reality.
After purchase of Bella, he moved on board and enjoyed sailing the waters off Southern
California during his free time. The Channel Islands were a favorite destination.
In 2008 he moved to Monterey, where he continued to lived on the boat, work, and sail
every chance he got. In January 2009, Christian decided to pursue his life long dream of
making cruising and sailing his career by starting his own charter business, Bella on
the Bay. Christian is energetic, outgoing, personable, and fun! His love of life and
positive attitude are contagious. Your experience aboard Bella will be an unforgettable
time!
