Jenkins Family Sail and Cruise on monterey Bay

Once upon a time our east coast family decided to take our first Pacific voyage. We liked Christian’s enthusiasm on the phone and how he promised “Sail with me and I’ll try to make it a day to remember!” Our decision to sail with him turned out to be a brilliant choice indeed!”
Before we even left harbor, we learned to distinguish between seals and sea lions thanks to Rikki and her adorable son, Thatcher. In no time we discovered that Christian is not only a master sailor but also an expert sailing teacher! Jack was soon piloting the boat like an old hand. As we traveled, we learned about the geology/biology of Monterey Bay. Meanwhile, Christian was “psychic sailor”; just before we became too cold, he brought blankets. Just before we were hungry, he offered snacks; he was almost magical!
Sailing through blue water towards a rose streaked sunset, everything was perfect. Then we heard Christian shout “I‘ve got them at 10:00!” Our hearts leapt! Though we knew it was a long shot, our southern Atlantic selves had secretly hoped to see our first whales. Maybe our wish was coming true!
Sure enough, we chased the spouts and saw whales THREE times! Their backs gently lifted out of the sea. Then their beautiful black tails broke the surface to descend for a deep dive. As the last light of day sneaked through the pink sky, three whale tails waved goodbye. Tears filled our eyes as we felt so privileged to visit these amazing creatures in their own home.
As we motored back, lights from Cannery Row welcomed us back. We were so thankful to Christian, Rikki, (and Thatcher!) for what proved to be a family memory to be cherished for always.
SOOO, if you are in Monterey, we HIGHLY recommend that you book a magnificent sail with Christian. And, if you do, give him a big hug from us for a storybook sail that this family will always treasure as “a day to remember.”
